I put off reading his book for a while because I suspected from what I knew of the plot, and this fandom, that a chunk of this would annoy me. I was right, though not quite as much as expected.

This is an anthology of four urban fantasy novellas by Jim Butcher, Simon R. Green, Kat Richardson, and Thomas E. Sniegoski. My reaction to each was about on par with my reaction to each author in the past.

Hmm…I almost feel guilty even putting the title of the book up, as it’s actually a spoiler for the series. But then, it wasn’t exactly something difficult to figure out early on, IMO.

Just a word for those relatively new to this LJ:  I am fairly incapable of saying critical or unkind things about Jim Butcher.  Everyone has authors like that, mine are Jim Butcher, Simon R. Green, E.E, Knight and Elizabeth Peters.  Granted, I freely admit that, as compared to his more recent books, the early Dresden Files books don't hold up* ( Read more... )

 How do you not love a guy who's the greatest swordsman of his time who abandons everything and brands himself as a slave and  pretends to a be dumb, skillless slave for almost 20 years just to watch over his dead commanding officer's(secret) wife and kid(being in love with said wife himself, of course)?
